In Germany, many small and medium-sized online stores utilize Shopify’s ecommerce software, which holds a significant market share of nearly 40 percent. German software providers Shopware and JTL are also popular, rounding out the top three.

These findings are from a study conducted by software provider Uptain, which analyzed over 1,500 small and medium-sized online stores. Shopify leads with a 39.9 percent market share, followed by Shopware at 25.1 percent and JTL at 12.3 percent. Other software, such as Magento, Prestashop, and custom-built solutions, are less commonly used in this segment, often favored by larger online stores.

“Shopify has successfully captured the German SME online shop market with its user-friendly interface and effective marketing strategies,” stated Julian Craemer, CEO and founder of Uptain. “Local platforms still fall short in some areas, making it unlikely that Shopify’s momentum will decrease over the next five years.”
